I’m sorry about the bad news. I don’t know if I was the bearer of it. I was more than a little baffled when I tried order it on Ingrams today and asked scarletcougar to call you to find out what was up. I hope things work out and it gets picked up on a new list.

Niche-y complaint? Not enough pregnant pagans? Isn’t Provenance Press niche-y by nature? Sorry about the news Autumn. Bastids.

And rightly so. Sanguine is all well and good, but to have the rug pulled out from under you like that is a very good reason to be disappointed. I hope your publisher manages to fix things!

I was completely confused when I found out about it yesterday… and more so, that you found out from US instead of your own publishing house. I’m so sorry that it happened, and hope that once they ‘re-title’ it, they handle you with more respect and care!

That sucks. Indeed! I don’t have enough fingers on both hands to count the number of folks who are excited about a pagan pregnancy book! Stupid suits.

I can see their point, though: pagan women who are pregnant make up a very, very slim slice of the market. I don’t agree with them, obviously, but that fact on paper along with the lack of preorders from the two big box stores in the US (Borders and B&N) would certainly be enough reason in their eyes to kill it.

I just wonder why the tiny slice-of-market thing didn’t occur to them way back in mid-2006 when we contracted the thing and they approved it. Apparently preorders carry an awful lot more weight than I suspected.

And how I found out was just unfortunate. My editor was trying to gather as much info as possible before contacting me. Calling me to say “Hi they’ve killed the book, I might have more news in a day or so” would have been much worse than her plan to call me and say “They’ve cancelled the book BUT I’ve managed to get them to agree to put it on hold pending some changes and trying again, here’s what we’ll do” as she was intending to do.
