The boy has been successfully initiated into the world of Star Wars. So much so that he played ‘oh no the walls are closing in we have to call the robots!’ in the bath last night. He also pulled a blue towel over his head and told us that he was ‘the little one with the one eye and two wheels’, which took me a moment before I understood that he was pretending to be R2-D2.
He says ‘Tith Lords’ in the most charming fashion, called Chewbacca ‘Rawbawca’ for a bit, thought X-wings were pretty cool, and asked where his own lightsaber was as soon as Obi-Wan handed one to Luke. ( “Erm,” HRH temporized, because of course we have a pair; we just didn’t want to hand him one and watch the ensuing devastation as he gleefully swept things off shelves.) We’re currently escaping Hoth in ESB.
And the final seal of approval: When we played the Star Wars soundtrack yesterday afternoon, he danced like a truly crazed thing. And he asked for it in the car this morning.
Excellent.
I heartily approve of Liam’s good taste!
Devon adores the Star Wars trilogy, and eschews the . . . other films. In fact, her top five favorite movies of all time are:
1. Star Wars: a New Hope
2. The Two Towers
3 The Lord of the Rings
4. Oliver!
5. Annie!
Well, at least the first four are great, and I am relieved that, in spite of her massive collection of Barbie movies (which she loves), she still opts for the classics when it comes to all-time favorites.
For # 3, do you mean Fellowship? Cause I’d rank them that way too; Towers is definitely my favourite, followed by Fellowship and then Return.
Yup, sorry—I meant Fellowship. It’s just the way Devon refers to them!
And yes, I’d rank them the same way, too; I love FotR because it is the first, but my favorite of the three is definitely TT.
That must have been so much fun… have you told him about Star Wars Lego yet?
I’m pacing Ben on Star Wars, largely because I was freaked out by ESB (tauntaun guts! Headless Vaders! Han Solo torture! Where’s Luke’s hand?) when I was 7 and don’t want to cause Ben any similar distress. So, for him, Star Wars is one film.
That doesn’t stop me playing through ESB in Lego Star Wars, though!
Yeah, we’re wondering about the later bits of ESB too. Although he was fine with the tauntaun, and very sensibly talked through it to make sure he understood what was happening.
Lego Star Wars: Oh yes, he has seen the trailer for the games… ee’re going to be looking for it secondhand this or next week. :)
As for the actual LEgo… some day when he is older I will bring down my as-of-yet-unopened saved-for-a-very-special-occasion Lego X-wing model, and we will
rule the galaxy as mother and sonbuild it together. And now, so people can read it:

(Interesting: I’m showing my three and a half year old son SW, and I wasn’t allowed to see it in theatres in case the aliens scared me. Finally saw it at school when I was ten-ish. RotJ was the first one I saw in theatres, and I don’t think I saw ESB until afterward. We live in a very different world now, don’t we.)

I for one welcome our new Lego wielding overlords…
I know I was 7 or so when I first saw them, only Issue I had was Vader being a bit creepy for me on the initial run through. I was told if it bothered me to go to a different room or close my eyes. *shrug*
‘Kay . . . your “Write a Comment” section is on top of and completely blocking part of your own comment! Is anyone else having this problem?
Yes, Paze, everyone is. It’s one of the known issues with this stupid theme. I don’t have time to try to poke at it to fix things yet, especially without breaking yet another aspect of the blog, or trying to find yet another theme that doesn’t break the journal or have a worse issue. So we all post filler or silly stuff till we can see the comments again, and nothing really gets lost. Try temporarily changing the size of your browser window to reformat the page if there’s something you can’t see; it works for most people.
Do you play bits of the soundtrack on the cello for him?
Not yet! I’m saving that for when I really need it. (I love John Williams; lots of his big themes are in C major and use fifths.)
