Today he cut not one but both upper one-year molars.
No wonder it’s been so painful for everyone around here over the past ten days. And today was a special sort of insane. I discovered the first one in the top right gum around lunch. Then jteethy came to pick us up in order to whisk us over to share the afternoon with him and Paze (thank you thank you thank you for the change in scenery and company!), and I discovered the second one on the other side. It literally came through an hour later.
Brave little guy. There have been lots of tears and hugs today, in amongst the screaming and blissful unconsciousness imposed upon him by the car as we took a long, long drive along the Lakeshore. Lots of growing accomplished.
The other big news of the day: We set up the car seat to face forward. He’s definitely a big boy, what with molars and sitting so that he can look in the direction we’re headed like the adults do, and eating Popsicles like he did on Sunday (very fun, even though he kept trying to hold the cold ice part instead of the stick and dropping it because it was, well, cold) and grilled cheese sandwiches too (first one yesterday — it’s cheese! and toast! awesome!).
Yes, my son tried popsicles recently too and did the same thing :) We made them with juice. I filled them up 1/2 way and put orange juice and let them freeze, then added some apple-cranberry over the frozen orange and put the sticks in and refroze them. There was a distinct orange and red layer, which made them uber cool :) Although I love Mr. Freezies… love them! But I’m trying so hard not to get my kids addicted to sugar like I was. At least they’ve yanked soda out of schools here. I can only imagine what it’s like for a parent during the teen years …
I think the molars were the worst for Josh too. He got them while we vacationed at Mom’s house last month. He seemed to like to chomp on carrots, and of all things best of all, a plastic rubberized wine cork that he could just gnaw on and it wouldn’t break off. Not sure how you feel about this, but we’ve done it with both kids and it also helps… and that’s rubbing a little whiskey/rye on your finger and on their gums. Ambesol tastes awful, and this is a natural remedy, even if it’s alcohol. But then they must’ve had to use something way back when before all these modern conveniences came out.
Get a good nights sleep if you can.

ah grilled cheese ….. food of the gods
I made my own too, using yoghurt and fresh strawberries and a bit of gelatin, but he kept spitting it out. Next batch, I’ll use juice.
