![]() Working in the book and esoteric industries means that I do a lot of conferences and conventions, and meet lots of interesting people! Book Signing! For the first time ever, a local book signing by the elusive author of Power Spellcraft for Life, Solitary Wicca for Life, and The Way of the Green Witch! This signing took place at Le Melange Magique on the afternoon of Saturday September 9 2006, as part of the store's 15th anniversary celebration weekend. It was terrific to see readers and thank them for their support, as well as to finally sign all those copies of my books that people kept holding on to for over a year now, hoping for an event just like this! Thanks to everyone who showed up, and to the staff of Le Melange Magique for making me so comfortable. Con*Cept 2003 Con*Cept is Montreal's annual science fiction and fantasy convention, organised by the Montreal Science Fiction & Fantasy Association (affectionately known as MONSFFA). Last year, I worked in the dealers' room as a representative both of Le Melange Magique and of Nebula, Montreal's now-defunct speculative fiction bookshop which rises from the ashes each year to host a signing table for the conference guest authors. (And I'll be at the 2004 convention as well!) ![]() In 2003, I had the good fortune to work with Dave Duncan for a couple of hours, an author whose work I have enjoyed since I began reading it in the early 1990s. He signed my copy of Magic Casement for me. (This is a big thing, because no matter how many authors I meet and work with, I usually forget to bring my copies of their books for them to sign. I'm just too used to them being people with a job, I suppose.)
![]() I also enjoyed a pleasant time with Joel Champetier, author of such books as La Taupe et le Dragon (translated as The Dragon's Eye), and winner of the Grand Prix de la science-fiction et du fantastique québécois and the Aurora prize.
Stage and Screen In October of 2002, in association with the Midnight Players on Kingston, ON,, I performed the role of Florence Stoker in Dracula:The True Story, a live TV broadcast of a radio play written by Anthony D.P. Mann. Sounds intruiging? It was! ![]() This is a picture taken at the rehearsal a week before the actual live broadcast. It was printed in a local Kingston paper along with an article on the show's mastermind, Tony, and the idea of creating an old-fashioned radio broadcast, with all actors in full costume with props and scripts, for people to watch instead of simply listen to. (From left to right: Anthony D.P. Mann; me; and Taras Stasiuk, a Montreal-based actor, writer, and producer.) Celtic and Esoteric Expos Montreal is a city of festivals! And hey, who doesn't love to dress the part? ![]() I worked the dealer booth with Le Melange Magique at the very first Montreal Celtic Festival in June 2000. ![]() In October of 2003, Le Melange Magique created a free-standing store in the centre of the expo space of the Salon Occulte, held in the Olympic Stadium. We held book signings as part of our events, and this is a picture of me and my colleague Debra with local author Marc Andre Richard, author of La Magie des Dragons as well as several collaborations with Eric Pier Sperandio.
